KitchenAid Superba 42 Refrigerator Repair in Safety Harbor: A 30-Year-Old Unit Running Warm

A client in Safety Harbor had a KitchenAid Superba 42 built-in refrigerator — roughly 30 years old — running well above normal temperature. The freezer was sitting around 35°F and the fridge section around 55°F, both far too warm to keep food safe. On top of that, the icemaker and water dispenser had both stopped working.

More than a dirty coil

The assumption going in was that the condenser coil just needed a cleaning, which is a common enough fix on an older unit like this.

But testing the condenser fan motor told a different story — it had failed. Without that fan moving air across the condenser, the whole cooling system loses efficiency, which explains why both compartments were running so far above where they should be.

The old fan’s blades had actually warped from the heat buildup after years of restricted airflow. We replaced the motor on the spot.

Leaving the water valve for another day

The icemaker and water dispenser issue traces to the water inlet valve, which also needs to be replaced. Since the client doesn’t actually use that feature, they decided to hold off on that part of the repair for now — the cooling problem was the priority, and that’s fixed.
