LG ThinQ front-load washer with digital control panel in a laundry room in Oldsmar
Symptom
Water supply error, as if no water was reaching the washer.
Cause
Plastic debris lodged in the cold water bypass line; the inlet valve tested fine.
Fix
Removed the debris and reassembled — no parts needed.

A client in Oldsmar had an LG front-load washer (model WM4000HWA) throwing a water supply error, as if water wasn’t reaching the machine at all.

The water valve checked out fine

The water inlet valve is the usual first suspect for this error, so that’s where the diagnosis started. Power was reaching it, and the resistance measured normal — the valve itself wasn’t the problem.

No pressure in the bypass line

Checking further found no pressure in the cold water bypass line. Opening up the hoses turned up the actual cause: a piece of plastic debris of unknown origin lodged inside, blocking the flow.

Result

With the debris cleared out and everything reassembled, the washer is filling and running normally. This was a service call only — no parts needed replacing, just clearing the obstruction. See our washer repair page for what else we typically check.

FAQ

What causes a water supply error on an LG washer?

Low or no water flow — check the supply, hoses, and inlet valve. Here debris was blocking the line.

Do I need a new water valve?

Not necessarily — test it first. Here power and resistance were normal, and the fix was clearing a blockage.
