Samsung Freezer Warming Up in Westchase: Evaporator Fan Replaced Friday Night

- Symptom
- Freezer temperature rising fast while the refrigerator side stayed cold.
- Cause
- The evaporator fan motor in the freezer had stopped.
- Fix
- Replaced the evaporator fan motor the same evening, with a part we had on the truck.
A client in Westchase called on a Friday and asked if we could come the same day. The temperature in the freezer of their Samsung side-by-side, model RH25H5611SR, was rising fast. The refrigerator side was fine.
We got there around 7 in the evening.
Two evaporators
This is a side-by-side with two evaporators, one in the refrigerator and one in the freezer. Each has its own fan that pulls air across the coil and pushes the cold air through the compartment. That explains why only one side warmed up.
We emptied the freezer and took off the rear panels to get at the coil.
What we found
The evaporator fan motor had stopped. It’s a very common failure on these Samsungs. With the fan not running, the cold air stays on the coil instead of reaching the freezer.
Fixed on the spot
We keep the popular fan motors in stock, so we had one with us. We swapped it in that night.
Keeping a stock of parts like this isn’t cheap, but it’s worth it. The client keeps the food in the freezer, and we don’t have to make a second trip.

FAQ
Why is my freezer warming up when the refrigerator side is fine?
On a side-by-side like this Samsung, the freezer and the refrigerator each have their own evaporator and fan. In this Westchase home the freezer's evaporator fan had stopped, so the cold air wasn't moving, and only the freezer warmed up.
Can a refrigerator be repaired the same night it fails?
Often, yes, if we have the part. We keep the common fan motors on the truck, so this one was fixed on a Friday evening visit and the client kept their food.
