Sub-Zero Refrigerator Not Freezing in Tarpon Springs: A Failed Evaporator Fan

A built-in Sub-Zero refrigerator in Tarpon Springs wasn’t cooling properly — the freezer section wasn’t holding temperature and had stopped freezing.

Tracking down the cause

The evaporator fan — the motor that circulates cold air from the evaporator coil through the freezer — had failed. Without it running, the coil couldn’t move cold air where it needed to go, so the freezer just couldn’t keep up.

Not the easiest compartment to work in

This particular Sub-Zero design packs the evaporator, fan, and icemaker components into a tight compartment that’s genuinely awkward to take apart and put back together — one of the more frustrating layouts we run into. Having the replacement fan motor on hand meant we could still get it done in the same visit.

Result

With the new fan installed, the freezer is back to holding temperature normally. If your built-in refrigerator’s freezer section isn’t freezing the way it should, a failed evaporator fan is one of the things worth checking — even on the more complicated designs.
