Thermador Range Burner Not Working in Belleair Beach: Surface Burner Valve Replaced

- Symptom
- One surface burner on a 48-inch Thermador range wasn't working.
- Cause
- The igniter, control knobs, wiring and control panel tested fine. The electric valve for that surface burner had failed.
- Fix
- Replaced the surface burner electric valve.
Belleair Beach, a 48-inch Thermador Pro range, model PRD486WDGU/07, and one burner that wouldn’t work.
A dead burner has a short list of suspects, so we went through them. Power was fine. The igniter was fine. The control knobs, the wiring and the control panel all tested fine too. That left the valve that feeds the burner.
The valves sit in a row behind the knobs, so the front panel comes off to reach them.
We pulled the one for the bad burner and checked it with a meter.
It was the failed part. We fitted a new surface burner electric valve for this model.
Then the panel and knobs went back on. If a single burner quits on a range like this and the others still work, the fault is almost always in that burner’s own parts. Our cooktop repair page has more on what we test.
FAQ
Why would one burner on a Thermador range stop working?
It can be the igniter, the knob switch, the wiring or the valve that feeds that burner. On this PRD486WDGU everything else tested fine and the burner's electric valve was the failed part.
Does the whole range have to come apart to replace a burner valve?
Not the whole range. On this one the front control panel came off, which is where the valves sit behind the knobs.
