Whirlpool Built-In Microwave Not Heating in Oldsmar: Door Switch Repaired On Site

- Symptom
- Microwave turned on but didn't heat.
- Cause
- Faulty door switch.
- Fix
- Repaired the door switch on site.
The built-in Whirlpool microwave in this East Lake Woodlands kitchen in Oldsmar would turn on, but it wouldn’t heat. It’s a model WMC30516AS, stacked right above a Whirlpool wall oven.
Getting it out
A built-in sits in a trim kit inside a cabinet opening, so the first step is sliding the whole microwave out. We pulled it forward onto the counter.
What we found
With the cover off we could get to the parts that matter: the magnetron, the high-voltage transformer, the fan and the door switch assembly.
The door switches tell the oven the door is closed, and the oven won’t heat unless they do. One of them wasn’t doing its job.
The fix
We repaired the door switch right there in the kitchen, slid the microwave back into its trim kit, and it was working again the same visit. If your microwave runs but the food stays cold, our microwave repair service can come take a look.
FAQ
Why would a microwave turn on but not heat?
A faulty door switch can do it. The oven relies on its door switches to know the door is closed, and it won't heat unless they report that correctly. That was the problem on this Whirlpool in Oldsmar.
Can a built-in microwave be repaired in the home?
Yes. We slid this Whirlpool out of its cabinet, opened it up, repaired the door switch, and had it working the same visit.
