Whirlpool Over-the-Range Microwave Won't Stay On in Safety Harbor: A Damaged Door Frame

Tracing an intermittent fault back to physical damage

The door frame that the touch control panel is mounted to had been mechanically damaged — cracked at one of the mounting points. That damage was throwing off the touch panel’s operation: after cycling power at the breaker, the microwave would run for a short while, then fault out and shut back down again within a couple of minutes.

A part that isn’t available

The fix here would mean replacing the door frame — but Whirlpool only sells that frame together with the touch panel as a single assembled unit, not separately, and that assembly currently isn’t available to order at all.

Repair vs. replace

With the part unavailable and the cost of this kind of assembly running high relative to the price of the microwave itself, replacing the whole unit made more sense here than waiting on a repair that isn’t currently possible.
