What it was

The tub on a top-load washer hangs on four suspension rods, and they keep it steady as it spins. When the rods wear out, the tub gets off balance. The washer can then add water again and again, trying to even out the load.

We opened the washer up from the top to get at the tub.

The repair

We replaced all four suspension rods with a genuine Whirlpool set. Whirlpool makes Maytag washers, so the parts are the same family.

FAQ

Why does my Maytag top-load washer keep adding water?

A top-load washer can add water again and again when the tub is out of balance, trying to even out the load. On this Maytag we replaced all four worn suspension rods that hold the tub.

Should suspension rods be replaced one at a time?

We replace all four together, since they wear at the same rate. Here we put in a full genuine set.
