Samsung FlexWash Washer Tripping the Breaker in Oldsmar: A Shorted Inverter Board in the Lower Washer

- Symptom
- The washer was tripping the breaker.
- Cause
- A shorted inverter board in the lower washer, which runs the motor. The motor itself was fine.
- Fix
- We tested the upper washer fully, then replaced the lower washer's inverter board the next day.
A Samsung FlexWash washer, model WV60M9900AV, in the Cypress Lakes Preserve neighborhood of Oldsmar kept tripping the breaker.
Two washers in one
This isn’t a regular washer. It’s two separate washers built into one cabinet: a smaller one on top and a regular front-load washer below. It’s a fancy machine, and it’s extremely heavy.
What we found
We tested the upper washer fully, and everything was fine.
In the lower washer we found a shorted inverter board. The inverter is the board that runs the motor. The motor itself was fine.
The repair
We didn’t have the part with us. This washer has at least five different main control boards, and we can’t carry them all. We ordered the right one and finished the repair the next day.
There was one more problem. Because the inverter was damaged, the control board wouldn’t release the door lock, and the owner’s clothes stayed locked inside for a couple of days. No harm done to the laundry.
