GE Front-Load Washer Overflowing From the Detergent Dispenser in Trinity: Cleaned, No New Part Needed

- Symptom
- Water poured out of the detergent dispenser while the washer filled.
- Cause
- Clogged detergent dispenser.
- Fix
- Took the dispenser apart and cleaned it on site. A new dispenser wasn't needed.
This GE front-load washer in Trinity had one clear problem. When it filled with water, the water came out of the detergent dispenser instead of going into the drum.
What was wrong
The dispenser was clogged. To get to it we took the top off the washer and pulled out the whole dispenser assembly, the blue plastic box on the left in the photo.
Opened up, it was full of built-up residue.
Cleaned, not replaced
We had a new dispenser with us. Before installing it we decided to try cleaning the old one, and it cleaned up well. The new dispenser isn’t cheap, so there was no point putting it in.
After we put it back together the washer ran fine and the water stayed where it belongs. If your washer fills and water ends up spilling out of the dispenser, our washer repair service can check it out.
FAQ
Why does water spill out of my washer's detergent dispenser when it fills?
A clogged dispenser is a common cause. The water can't flow through, so it backs up and comes out the front. On this GE in Trinity the dispenser was clogged, and cleaning it fixed the problem.
Do I need a new dispenser if mine is clogged?
Not always. A new dispenser isn't cheap, and here a thorough cleaning was enough, so we didn't install the new one we brought.
