GE Front-Load Washer Repair in Safety Harbor: Seized Drain Pump

A client in Safety Harbor had a GE front-load washer stuck full of water. It had finished the wash portion of the cycle but couldn’t drain, which meant it never made it into the rinse cycle.

What the client already tried

Before calling us, the client pulled and cleaned the drain filter themselves, thinking a clog was the likely cause. It’s a reasonable first step, but it didn’t fix anything here — the water still wouldn’t drain.

Diagnosis

Once we got into the drain system, we found the real problem: the drain pump had seized. The pump motor was humming when it tried to run, but the impeller wasn’t turning because the motor had overheated and locked up.

This is a fairly common failure on this style of GE washer. It’s also worth checking the control board when this happens, since a seized pump motor pulling excess current can sometimes take the board out with it — but in this case, the board tested fine and only the pump needed to go.

The repair

Since the drain pump is a part we keep in stock, we replaced it on the spot.

Result
