LG Double Oven Won't Turn On After a Water Spill in Safety Harbor: New Display Board

- Symptom
- The ovens on an LG double oven electric range stopped turning on at all.
- Cause
- The family dog spilled a good amount of water on the cooktop, and it ran down inside into the electronics. The display board was damaged.
- Fix
- We replaced the display board. Both ovens turn on and heat again.
This LG double oven range in Safety Harbor (model LTE4815ST) got an unplanned soaking. The family dog knocked over water on the cooktop, and there was enough of it that it ran down inside. After that, the ovens wouldn’t turn on at all.
Lots of electronics, so we came prepared
There’s a lot of electronics packed into the control area of this range, and water can reach more than one of them. So we ordered a few parts to have on hand, just in case.
We opened up the control panel to get at the boards.
The display board was the one
The display board turned out to be the part the water took out. We swapped it for the new one and reconnected everything.
Checking both ovens
This range has two ovens, so we tested both. We clamped the power wires at the terminal block with a meter to make sure the elements were pulling current, and both ovens heated the way they should.
If water ever gets into your range, shut it off at the breaker and let us check it before you use it again. More on what we repair on our oven repair page.
FAQ
Can spilled water stop an electric oven from working?
Yes. If enough water gets past the cooktop into the control area, it can damage the boards that run the oven. On this LG range the display board had to be replaced.
What should I do if water spills into my range?
Turn the range off at the breaker, wipe up what you can and don't try to use it until it's checked. Water and live electronics don't mix.
