LG Wall Oven Combo Went Dead After Using the Microwave in Oldsmar: A Burned Thermal Fuse Terminal

- Symptom
- Right after the microwave was used, the whole LG microwave and wall oven combo lost power and the display went blank.
- Cause
- A bad connection at the terminal of a thermal fuse. The terminal had burned, so power to the unit cut in and out.
- Fix
- We pulled the unit out of the cabinet, found the burned terminal at the thermal fuse and fixed the connection. The display and both sections work again.
This LG combination wall oven in Oldsmar has a microwave on top and an oven below (model LWC3063ST). The client ran the microwave, and right after that the whole unit died. No power, and the display went completely dark.
Chasing a loose connection
To get to the wiring we pulled the unit out of the cabinet and opened up the control area.
At first it looked like a problem with the connectors at the boards. When we moved the wiring around, the unit would get a little power for a moment, which always means a bad contact somewhere along the way.
The thermal fuse terminal
We followed it to a thermal fuse, a safety part that cuts power if things overheat. The fuse itself wasn’t the issue. The terminal on its wire had burned, and that poor contact was what cut out. Running the microwave pulls a lot of current, and that was enough to make it give up completely.
We fixed the connection and put the unit back in the cabinet. The display came back on and both the microwave and the oven work.
A display that flickers on when you wiggle something is a wiring problem, not a dead board. More about what we fix on our oven repair page.
FAQ
Why did my wall oven lose power after I used the microwave?
On combo units both sections share wiring and safety parts. On this LG, a loose, burned terminal at a thermal fuse gave out under the microwave's load and cut power to the whole unit.
Why does a blank display sometimes flicker on when parts are moved?
That points to a loose connection somewhere in the power path. When you move the wiring, the contact touches for a moment. We follow it until we find the bad spot, here a burned terminal on a thermal fuse.
