Thermador Oven Not Heating or Heating Unevenly
Thermador wall ovens and dual-fuel ranges heat with electric elements, and all-gas ranges light the oven burner with an igniter. The likely causes are different for each, so start with which one you have.
What it usually is
Most common first.
- Failed bake or broil element (electric ovens)
An element can burn out with nothing to see, especially a bake element hidden under the oven floor. The oven may still warm up from the other element, which shows up as slow preheating and uneven baking.
- Weak igniter (gas ovens)
The igniter has to get hot enough before the gas valve opens. A worn one glows but takes too long to light the burner, or never does.
- Temperature sensor
The sensor tells the control how hot the oven is. When it drifts, the oven runs too hot or too cool.
- Convection fan not turning
Convection modes rely on the fan to even out the heat. If it has stopped, one side of the pan browns before the other.
- Half the power supply missing
Electric ovens run on 240 volts. If one side of the breaker has tripped, the display and lights can work while the oven never gets hot.
- Control or relay board
The board switches the elements on and off, and a failed relay leaves one element dead. Self-clean cycles are hard on ovens, and failures sometimes show up right after one.
- Door gasket or hinges
A door that doesn't close tight leaks heat at the front.
What you can safely check yourself
- Find the oven's breaker and switch it fully off, then back on. A double breaker can look on when one side has tripped.
- Make sure the control panel isn't locked and that no delayed start or timed cook was set by accident.
- Look over the door gasket and check that the door closes flat.
- Take any foil or liners off the oven floor and racks. They block heat and airflow.
- Put an oven thermometer on the middle rack, set the oven to 350, and compare after it has been at temperature for 20 minutes or so.
- On a gas range, see whether the cooktop burners light normally. If they don't, the problem is the gas supply and not the oven.
Anything past this, like refrigerant, gas valves, wiring, or taking panels off, is a job for a technician.
When to call
- The oven stays cold or stalls well short of the set temperature.
- A gas oven smells of gas and doesn't light. Turn it off and don't keep trying.
- The thermometer reading is far from the setting, or swings widely.
- It stopped heating right after a self-clean cycle.
- The breaker trips again.

Common questions
Why does my Thermador oven turn on but not heat?
On an electric oven the display can run on part of the power supply, so a half-tripped breaker, a failed element, or a relay on the control board can leave it lit but cold. On a gas oven, a weak igniter is the usual cause.
Can I adjust the oven temperature myself?
Many Thermador ovens have a temperature offset in the settings menu, and the owner's manual explains it. Use it for a small, steady difference. If the oven is far off or swings a lot, a part has failed and an offset won't fix it.
